Chimay beer is a Belgian beer, brewed by Trappist monks since 1850. The beer is named after the town of ChimÄy in the province of Hainaut, Belgium.Ā The beer ChimÄy is produced by ChimÄy Brewery, located in Scourmont Abbey, in the municipality of ChimÄy. The beer is sold in 75 countries.
There are three beers in the ChimÄy range:
ChimÄy Blue or Grande Reserve (9% ABV) ā formerly known as ChimÄy Bleue or Bleue
Chimay Red or Premiere (7% ABV)
ChimÄy White or Cinq Cents (5% ABV)
The beers are bottle conditioned, meaning that they are refermented in the bottle. Chimay Blue is refermented in the bottle for 18 months.
